Fernández was missing since last Friday, August 23 after visiting her sister's home in Aravaca (Madrid).

His brother-in-law, Adrián Federighi, told national media that the athlete had reported that he would be absent for four days to go hiking. But at the end of the conference and not hearing from her, her daughter decided to go to the authorities on Thursday, August 29 to report the disappearance.

In order to facilitate the search work, the police spread this Saturday the disappearance of Fernández Ochoa through social networks, informing about the details of the car in which he was traveling. A day later, on Sunday, September 1, they located the car in the municipality of Cercedilla, in the Sierra de Guadarrama area of ​​Madrid.

From that moment on, a device formed by the National Police, Civil Guard, forestry agents and the Special Mountain Rescue Group, among others, was organized to begin the search for the medalist. They are works that extend in a land of about 3,500 hectares and with a very complicated orography, as detailed on Monday the spokesman of the Civil Guard Command, Mercedes Martín.
