At 10.10 local time there was an explosion in the Afghan capital Kabul. The accident is said to have occurred in the district of Shashdarak near a control post.
A spokesman for the secret service said the checkpoint was staffed by NDS intelligence, police and army forces. In the immediate vicinity are facilities of the defense service and the headquarters of the NATO mission "Resolute Support". Nothing could be said about the kind of explosion, it was said.
Social media images showed a large cloud of smoke and a crater in a street. At first nothing was reported about victims. Regional and English-language media report several dead and injured. Exact numbers are not yet available.
Only on Monday had at least 16 people been killed in an attack on a residential area in eastern Kabul. The radical Islamic Taliban committed themselves to the attack. This US is currently negotiating a peace agreement with the Taliban.
