Al Basel Exhibition for Creativity and Invention concludes its activities by distributing awards and honoring the participants

DAMASCUS, (SANA) - The 19th session of the University of Damascus concluded today with the distribution of awards and honoring the participants

The 19th session of Al-Basel Exhibition for Creativity and Invention, organized by the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in cooperation with the Higher Commission for Scientific Research, the Excellence and Creativity Commission, the Inventors Association and Syriatel Company, was concluded today at the Damascus International Fair.

The first prize, worth two million Syrian pounds, was distributed to four participating projects at a cost of 500 thousand pounds each, in which Hassan Diop, Ali Merhi, Ali Fayyoud and Ahmad Al-Saleh of the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority of Tishreen University won a project titled Moody, Said Ahdab and Rama Kumsha from Damascus University. The second prize, worth 900 thousand Syrian pounds, was distributed to three projects (300 thousand pounds each) by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Ghraibi from Damascus University for the project of manufacturing and producing natural polymeric nano fibers for the treatment of burns and chronic and difficult wounds. From the University of Baath on the design, implementation and testing of mechanical fingers for cases of amputations Salamat of the fingers, Dr. Hassan Ali and Dr. Maysa Ali Shash and Engineer Ahmed Mohamed Iskandar from the University of Tartous on the project of the study of the recovery and investment of waste thermal energy Tartous Cement Factory ranges.

The third prize, worth 600,000 Syrian pounds, was divided into three projects (200,000 Syrian pounds) for each of the participants: Ahmad Kinan Ghobash, Mohammad Zaher Jibseh, Saad Halali, Jihad Bakri, Ahmad Bishr Yazji and Muhammad Noor Aweira from Aleppo University for a three-dimensional embodiment of the University of Aleppo and the simulation of a computer game within the university and Dr. Suzan Mahmoud Tuffaha from Tartous University for the project of manufacturing products made of prefabricated concrete reinforced with fiberglass GRC more sustainable and higher permanence using the waste of demolition of ceramics and brick .. The closing ceremony also included the distribution of gold, silver and bronze medals, certificates and prizes to other winners.

In his speech, Dr. Atef Naddaf, Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, said that as the Damascus International Fair was a reflection of the will of the challenge and resilience in the face of the forces of terrorism, Al-Basel exhibition was a true reflection of this will and a reflection of the determination of the Syrians to face the challenges through scientific, research and cultural achievements.

The representative of the International Federation of Inventors Massoud Taj Fakesh in his speech that the achievements of Syrian innovators are worthy of attention and that the International Federation of Inventors presented two prizes to support the winners, noting that the Federation's participation in the exhibition Al-Basel aims to support the capabilities of the Syrian invention and the abilities of women and children and research achievements of Syrian university students in creativity and invention in all around the world.

In remarks to SANA, Dr. Majd Al-Jamali, Director General of the Higher Commission for Scientific Research, pointed out that the concerned authorities were contacted to follow up the projects presented at the exhibition, especially the distinguished ones, pointing to the role of the Commission in coordination with the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection to take the projects to practical application and benefit from them before. Eng. Mohamed Mostafa Sharafo, winner of the first prize for the invention of a wheelchair for the transport and mobility of persons with disabilities, expressed his happiness to participate in the exhibition and receive the award.

Engineer Mohammad Rami Harraq, a graduate student at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering Technologies at Aleppo University, who won with his colleagues the gold medal for the invention of a solar-powered device and turn it into basic compounds of oxygen and hydrogen, pointed out that the inventions are a duty to build and develop the country by science.

From the University of Aleppo, the inventor Jihad Bakri, winner of the third prize, considered that Al-Basel exhibition was a platform for introducing the inventions of Syrian youth and an incentive for more creativity and increased participation in the coming years.

The Al-Bassel Exhibition for Creativity and Invention, which opened on the 31st of August last on an area of ​​1820 square meters, included 387 creations and inventions of 827 participants from public and private universities, the Ministry of Education, the organizations of the Union of Youth Revolution and Vanguards, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, the Agricultural Research Authority and the Inventors Association, in addition to eight entries.
