Washington (CNN) - Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson published and then deleted a tweet Wednesday morning that suggested "mental power" could stop Hurricane Dorian from crashing into the United States.

“The Bahamas, Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas… can be in our prayers now. Millions of us watching Dorian move away from the earth is not a crazy idea; It is a creative use of the power of the mind. Two minutes of prayer, visualization, meditation for those on the path of the storm, ”said his post now deleted.

The applicant replaced the tweet with a publication that offered prayer for "the people of the Bahamas, Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas."

"May God's peace be with them and may their hearts be comforted while they endure the storm," he wrote.

In an email sent to CNN on Wednesday, Patricia Ewing, a campaign spokeswoman, said Williamson's original post "was a metaphor" and explained that the tweet was replaced because "it led to confusion."

He also accused the media of treating the applicant unfairly by 2020.

"When others talk about prayer and the mind, they are considered profound, but with Williamson they have a different standard," Ewing wrote.

Although he deleted the publication, Williamson defended himself from criticism on social media.

In response to a journalist's screenshot of his original publication, Williamson wrote: “Since you obviously want to discredit, confront or characterize anything I do wrong, would you like to have an honest and fair public dialogue? Since I'm not crazy or irresponsible or dangerous, I would appreciate the opportunity to counteract the cartoon. ”

Hurricane Dorian pulverized the Bahamas for two days, leaving the islands in apocalyptic ruins and devastating destruction. At least seven people, including an 8-year-old boy, died and authorities expect that number to increase.

As of Wednesday morning, Hurricane Dorian remains a Category 2 hurricane while heading towards a possible landing in the Carolinas. The eye of the storm is about 160 km from the east coast of Florida, with heavy rains and winds with tropical storm force hitting the coast. The storm is expected to turn northeast along the US coast. UU., Causing what could be a devastating flood on Thursday in Charleston, South Carolina.

As author and spiritual guru, Williamson, who announced his campaign in January, called for a "moral and spiritual awakening" for the United States and promised to "seize love for political purposes" to defeat President Donald Trump.

Williamson, after appearing in the first two Democratic debates, did not qualify for the September debate in Houston. He had reached the fundraising threshold set by the National Democratic Committee, but did not reach the minimum voting to qualify.

Williamson was one of the most sought after applicants after his appearance in the debate, but has generated controversy over his previous comments about vaccines and depression.
