According to a newspaper report in the first half of 2019, the police have registered a total of 609 attacks on refugees. This emerged from a response from the Federal Government on request of the left-wing fraction in the Bundestag, reported the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung". The offenses ranged from insulting and incitement to arson and dangerous assault.

According to NOZ, almost all criminal offenses were assigned to the area of ​​"Politically motivated crime on the right". In addition, there were 60 attacks on refugee shelters and 42 attacks against relief organizations or volunteers. In the attacks, 102 people were injured, including seven children.

Every fourth record-breaking attack on a refugee occurred according to the list in Brandenburg. The police recorded there 160 offenses with the "attack target refugee / asylum seekers," said the Federal Interior Ministry. In other states, therefore, far fewer attacks were recorded. In Baden-Württemberg there were 62, in Lower Saxony 58, in Saxony 56.

Ulla Jelpke, domestic spokeswoman for the Left Party in the Bundestag, said that refugees are exposed to an everyday threat in Germany. "The state has a duty of protection against these people." The Ministry of the Interior emphasizes in its answer: "Everyone in our society and also the politicians have the common responsibility to clearly position themselves against a silent agreement or mere acceptance of such attacks by the minority in our society."
