Damascus, (SANA) - President of the University of Damascus Dr. Mohammad Maher Qabakibi on Tuesday discussed with the President of the Al-Farabi Kazakh State University Galimkaer Mutanov the possibilities of activating scientific and academic cooperation between the two universities and student exchange and coordination to sign a memorandum of understanding.
In a statement to journalists, Qabakibi explained that the meeting included the first lines of a memorandum of understanding that will be signed later with the University of Kazakhstan and focuses on the fields of student and academic exchange and exchange of experiences so that the University of Damascus can provide advice and support in the field of research and studies related to the Arabic, Islamic and historical language.
For his part, Mutanov pointed out that Al-Farabi University, which bears the name of a scientist who died in Damascus and was buried in it, includes 30 thousand students distributed in 16 faculties of different specializations, especially economic and humanities. They share a common civilization that enables them to communicate strongly and exchange visits.
In a similar statement, Senator of Kazakhstan Senator Alimzhan Kurtayev drew attention to the strong relations between the two countries, expressing his hope to activate the Al-Farabi Cultural Center, which is located next to his mausoleum in Old Damascus, as soon as possible to contribute the translation of his books in Arabic to Kazakh, where little was translated.
For his part, the head of the Syrian community in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Samir al-Deraa, highlighted the role of Damascus University in participating in a celebration devoted by UNESCO in 2020 on behalf of Al-Farabi on the occasion of the 1150th anniversary of his birth.
