[Ottawa 4th Reuters]-Canada's Prime Minister Trudeau announced today that he has appointed Dominique Burton as the new Ambassador to China.

Barton, a 56-year-old Canadian from Uganda, retired as a global managing partner at McKinsey last year. He has a wealth of Chinese experience and is intimate with the Liberal administration led by Mr. Trudeau.

Trudeau said in a statement, “This appointment will be a very appropriate choice, given Barton ’s many years of experience in Asia and his great expertise in the global economy he gained in his wonderful career.” He expressed his expectation for his job performance.

Canada is having a tie-up with China over the issues of Chinese hand over of Chinese communications equipment, Huawei executives who have been detained to the United States, and trade issues. Mr. John McCallum, who was replaced by Mr. Burton, was dismissed as an ambassador to China in January for a disclaimer regarding the delivery of Huawei executives.

Barton, on the other hand, was appointed by the Canadian government as chairman of the Council on Economic Growth in 2016, and the business community and agriculture officials welcomed the decision.
