Dorian is already a category 1 hurricane
Dorian has weakened and is already a category 1 hurricane as it advances along the Carolinas coast, according to the United States National Hurricane Center.
The maximum sustained winds of the hurricane have been reduced to 90 miles per hour (150 kilometers per hour), and it moves northeast at 15 mph (24 km / h). It is now about 40 miles (64 kilometers) southeast of Wilmington, North Carolina.
However, tropical storm conditions are spreading rapidly along the coast of North Carolina, the center said. These conditions include high winds and rain, which could cause sudden "life-threatening" floods.
