New York (CNN) - Bianca Andreescu just doesn't know how to lose a tennis match these days, while Serena Williams suddenly struggles to win a Grand Slam final.

Andreescu became Canada's first Grand Slam singles champion and, at age 19, the first teenager to win a major since Maria Sharapova 13 years ago. She beat Williams 6-3, 7-5 in the US Open final on Saturday that ran smoothly after the 2018 controversy.

Twelve months ago, Williams faced judge Carlos Ramos. in a loss to Naomi Osaka and got caught at one point, which sparked a debate about sexism in tennis.

  • The reason why tennis balls are yellow, or maybe green

Most of the 24,000 attendees last year were passionately supporting Williams, the favorite at home, and that didn't change this Saturday. But Williams again finished as runner-up, despite recovering from 5-1 and the starting point in the second set to provoke a close conclusion.

The two players exchanged a hug on the net. Seconds later, Andreescu lay on the court, face up, and closed his eyes.

A perfect ice breaker!

Williams, watched by his good friend Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, while in the Wimbledon final, will have to wait until 2020 to tie Margaret Court's record of winning 24 majors.

The 37-year-old is still part of the royalty of tennis, despite losing her last four Grand Slam finals and in straight sets.

The energetic and versatile Andreescu, observed by his parents, extended his winning streak to 14 games and, if he excludes a loss by retirement, he has not suffered a defeat since March 1 in Acapulco.

“She is a warrior and street fighter,” said her coach, Sylvain Bruneau, on Friday.

Feisty Andreescu

Anyone who did not know already found out on Saturday. Appearing in his first Grand Slam final, Andreescu, who was not yet born when Williams won his first title at the US Open in 1999, had no qualms about letting one "come" after another.

She made the perfect start, breaking Williams after her opponent led 40-15. Williams made a double mistake twice to finish the game as a sign of what was to come. Double fouls would be a problem for Williams, with eight in total, and only served 44 percent.

Andreescu failed to convert five break opportunities, leading 4-2 in a game that extended to 10 minutes. But she ignored the disappointment in the next game, bravely saving a break point with an ace.

The fourth game of the second set sums up Williams' misfortune. Finally getting an ace, an outstretched gesture of Williams suggested the expression, "Where has that been?"

At the next point, she committed a double foul.

A lack of Williams's shot from 1-5 to 1-5 left Williams's mother, Oracene, perplexed in the stands, but kept a match point to break 2-5 and remained close to Andreescu.

The crowd stood up and reached a high point when Andreescu lost a setback at 5-3, 0-15 with Williams stranded. Andreescu seemed to try to block the noise with his fingers.

An increasing Williams returned incredibly to the service, but it was still complicated. From 30 to 30, after two aces and two double fouls, Andreescu missed two laps of second service.

Previous match

One of Andreescu's 10 most important victories this year was against Williams in the final in his hometown of Toronto in August, when the American was forced to retire after dealing with back spasms.

It only lasted four games, but the experience proved to be invaluable for Andreescu, since he had the opportunity to stand on the same court as Williams and feel his blows. Andreescu comforted a tearful Williams that day at a time that went viral.

His rise has been rapid. The US Open It was only his fourth Grand Slam event and he lost last year in the first qualifying round.

No wonder Andreescu articulated: "Is this real life?" After knocking Elise Mertens into the quarterfinals.

Yes, it is, and that life will never be the same.

Slam from Canada

Canada is known for loving hockey, but apparently a Grand Slam tennis champion seemed to approach after Eugenie Bouchard and Milos Raonic reached the final in Wimbledon in 2014 and 2016, respectively.

Andreescu hit them until the blow.

Williams is undoubtedly one of the best athletes in history. But he has lost those last four main finals, to Angelique Kerber, Osaka, Simona Halep and now Andreescu, since he returned in 2018 after giving birth to his daughter Olympia.

He had never lost three in a row and at one stage of his career was unstoppable, winning eight in a row.

Saturday's setback will surely make her more determined than ever to match the Court record.
