Caracas-Sana

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has announced a halt to dialogue with the opposition in protest at the position of its leader, Juan Guaido, on the Isiquipo region he is trying to sell.

The Venezuelan public prosecutor opened an investigation yesterday against Guaido on charges of trying to sell the area of Esquipo.

Maduro was quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency as saying on his Twitter page that he had appointed Communications Minister Jorge Rodríguez as head of the dialogue group to direct a proposal to the opposition to express clearly and quickly its position on the Eskipo region.

"We have left the table because of the boycott, economic blockade and protests, and we will not return to the talks until Guaido's position on the Isiquipo region is changed and his position on it is corrected," Maduro said.

The Venezuelan government began a dialogue with the opposition on the Caribbean island of Barbados several months ago in order to find a peaceful solution to the political crisis in the country since the beginning of this year as a result of US interventions in the internal affairs of the country and support for the right-wing opposition.
