Britain makes profits from the sale of weapons to the Saudi aggression coalition

LONDON - Britain has reaped profits from arms sales to countries, Oxfam International said Tuesday

London-Sana

Britain has reaped eight times more profits from arms sales to the countries of the Saudi aggression against Yemen, according to Oxfam International.

Britain has made £ 6.2 billion in arms sales to coalition countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, over a half decade, while providing only £ 770 million in food aid and medicines in an inconsistent approach, the Guardian newspaper said in a report. Completely.

Since the escalation of aggression against Yemen in 2015, the Yemeni economy has collapsed and famine has spread so widely that the United Nations has warned that 10 million Yemenis are on the brink of starvation and that there is a major outbreak of infectious diseases, including cholera.

Oxfam's chief executive, Danny Sreiskandaraja, said the British government's approach to Yemen was quite inconsistent, on the one hand it provided little aid while at the same time fueling the situation by providing arms to those involved in the war.

The British government was forced in June to suspend issuing new permits to sell weapons to the Saudi regime after a court decision in London confirmed the government's breach of the law when it allowed the export of weapons to Saudi Arabia.

Oxfam called on the British government to respect the court ruling, stop arms sales to Riyadh indefinitely and focus its efforts on stopping the war and making more donations for emergency relief.

Britain plays a key role in supporting the Saudi aggression against Yemen through arms deals and military and logistical support. The Saudi regime has obtained British arms worth over £ 7 billion since 2010, according to official British documents.
