Khartoum, Sudan (CNN) - The overthrown president of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, had exclusive access to the room of the Presidential Palace where millions were found in local and foreign currency, a defense witness and former chief of police said on Saturday Office of the President at the last judicial hearing of the deposed leader.

The witness said that he personally delivered a total of 10.65 million euros (about 11.8 million dollars) to several entities, including the deputy director of the Rapid Support Forces and the International University of Africa in Khartoum.

Bashir, who was overthrown in a military coup in April after a long popular uprising, faces charges of corruption and illegal possession of foreign currency.

The former president of Sudan was imprisoned in the same Khartoum jail, where generations of political dissidents were held under his three-decade rule.

“Al-Bashir was the only one with a key to the room where the money was found. My mission was only to deliver the cash as ordered by al-Bashir, ”Major General Yassir Bashir told the court, who ran the office between 2015 and 2018.

He said he gave 5 million euros to the deputy director of RSF, Abdul Rahim Dagalo, whose brother runs the paramilitary group and is believed to be the most influential general who leads the country.

RSF leader Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, was present during the cash delivery, the witness said.

The witness delivered to the court the receipts of all the funds, except the 5 million euros to Dagalo's brother.

"I was not given a paper receipt for the amount delivered," he added.

Omar al-Bashir resigned in April 2019.

He gave 4.5 million euros (5 million dollars) to the university administration, which was mainly administered by the ruling party of the al-Bashir Congress, he said. He also said he was ordered to give the military and civilians 200,000 euros ($ 222,000) for "treatment."

A second witness who works as an accountant at the university confirmed the receipt of 4.5 million euros. They told him that the money was provided as “support” of the president.

The court was suspended until Saturday.
