Altenstadt: CDU and SPD want to deselect NPD Ortsvorsteher again

In the Hessian town of Altenstadt, the SPD, the CDU and the FDP have elected an NPD man to be the mayor - and now regret that. Now the deselection of the right-wing extremist is being prepared.

The members of the Ortsbeirat Altenstadt-Waldsiedlung in Hesse were in agreement last Thursday evening. Without dissenting representatives of the SPD, CDU and FDP elected their colleague Stefan Jagsch to the mayor. A vote that subsequently caused nationwide outrage: because Jagsch is NPD politician.

Three days after the election, the action Damage Limitation is now running - if the damage can even be limited. Anyway, there are concrete plans in Altenstadt, Jagsch, who is also Landesvize of the Hesse NPD, as soon as local sell off again.

Seven of the nine local council members have signed a letter of intent to cancel the NPD man Jagsch again, says Lucia Puttrich, deputy Hessian CDU chairwoman of SPIEGEL. The three CDU and SPD members of the Ortsbesirats Waldsiedlung had confirmed their will to do so. Of the two local councils of the FDP refuse so far one his support for the plan.

To prepare for the deselection of Jagsch, there had been several talks over the weekend. Lisa Gnadl, SPD chairman of the district Wetterau and member of parliament in Hesse, reported on a meeting of the group leaders of the SPD, CDU and FDP of the community representative Altenstadt, to which also the mayor was present. On Sunday, then the group leaders with the local advisory board members who had chosen Jagsch, have come together. "It has top priority to find a way now that Mr. Jagsch can be legally voted out again," said Gnadl.

Local councils have offered resignation

"For the SPD, I can say that there is a strong will on all three local councils, Mr. Jagsch to deselect again," said Jan Voß, fraction leader of the SPD in Altenstadt. The initiative for the talks to dismiss Jagsch was based on the two women who had been absent on Thursday in his election: Eleonore Schaller (SPD) and Tatyana Cyrulnikow (CDU).

With the approval of seven of the nine local council members to a withdrawal of Jagsch would be necessary for the two-thirds majority. In the local council Waldsiedlung sit next to the NPD man in each case three representatives of CDU and SPD and two, who have come on the list of FDP in the Advisory Board, to NPD-man Jagsch.

"I assume that now one of the two women, who were absent at the meeting on Thursday, to the election as local council," said SPD man Voß. Of course, the SPD members would also vote for the CDU woman. "There is someone who wants to stand for election and is supported by all supporters of the election Jagsch," said CDU-Lucia Puttrich.

Previously, the two would have offered their resignation in the election Jagschs' on Thursday SPD Ortsbeiräte, said SPD politician Voß. But he had refused, because for a selection Jagsch their votes are necessary. There would not be anyone on the SPD list who would step up in their stead. "The two are now aware of their responsibility," said Voß.

When Jagsch took office, nobody else wanted to occupy the office

In order to deselect Jagsch, according to the Rules of Procedure, three local advisory boards must address the NPD man as mayor and ask him to call a meeting of the advisory council. Jagsch would have to meet this demand promptly. Jagsch has already announced that it will take legal action in case of a disqualification.

For the election of right-wing extremist Jagsch amazing explanations were given at the weekend. Local Council member Norbert Szilasko of the CDU said in an interview with the "Hessenschau": "We are completely party-independent in the local council." Whether or not Jagsch was with the NPD, make no difference - what does the mayor in his party or privately do not concern him.

The decision for the right-wing extremists was also born out of necessity. "Since we have no one else - especially no younger person who is familiar with computers that can send e-mails." In the local council, Szilasko reported, Jagsch behaved "absolutely collegially and quietly". Szilasko should support despite these statements now but a deselection of Jagsch.

The SPD politician Gnadl said that the local advisory councils had probably also surprised by the fact that Jagsch put up for election. It was expected that one of the CDU Ortsbeiräte ran for office. As a justification this circumstance by no means.

When Jagsch stood for election, no one else wanted to occupy the office of the village chief. At that time, the post had been vacant for more than two months, after Klaus Dietrich, who sits on the FDP's list on the panel, had resigned.
