(CNN) - At least 4 people died and another 30 became intoxicated after eating fish, on the morning of Thursday, September 5, in the indigenous community of Parijaro, in the province of Satipo, Peru.

“In that community live 110 people and 33 families, and they have a habit of going fishing in the river and in their fishing technique they use barbasco, that fishing was done on Sunday and on Tuesday they have just consumed it.

"Only 33 people consumed this fish and four people have unfortunately died," said the Directorate General for Disaster Risk Management of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), Mónica Meza García.

In response to these cases of intoxication, members of the Minsa gave medical attention to some 70 residents in the Indigenous Community of Parijaro.

The identity of people affected by mass poisoning was disclosed by the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci). The 32 people were evacuated in a plane of the Peruvian Air Force to the Manuel Ángel Higa Hospital.

Through a statement published by the Ministry of Health, it was reported that the staff of the General Directorate of Environmental Health (Digesa) analyzes the quality of the water that comes from the river to check if it is suitable for human consumption and determine the presence of viruses or parasites that could affect the health of indigenous people.
