Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated his country's emphasis on the need to exert efforts to eliminate terrorism in Syria and resolve the crisis in Syria in accordance with UN resolution 2254 and facilitate the return of the displaced to their country.

"We agreed on the need to continue the fight against terrorism in Syria and to advance the resolution of the crisis in Syria in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254 and to facilitate the return of displaced Syrians to their country," Lavrov told a news conference with his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Laudrian.

UN Resolution 2254, adopted in December 2015, affirms that it is the Syrians who determine their country's future without any external interference and that terrorist organizations are outside any political process.

In another context, Lavrov said relations between Russia and France are positive, pointing out that the initiatives between the two countries enhance cooperation on the international scene in light of efforts aimed at the collective settlement of all contemporary issues. We have repeatedly called for the unification of the efforts of the most important countries in the world to ensure the harmonious transformation of the world order that emerged after the end of the cold war.

On the Iranian nuclear agreement, Lavrov made clear that Russia and France agreed to continue cooperation in order to maintain the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on this agreement and that there is no reasonable alternative to it.
