The topic of the day: Will this be the new EU Commission?

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has presented her dream team for the new commission.

The good news first: As promised, gender parity is established. And two hot contenders for the presidential post, the Danish Margrethe Vestager (Liberals) and the Dutchman Frans Timmermans (Social Democrat), should be closely involved in the new commission.

In total, there will be 13 women and 14 men, including the head of the commission, in the future - how many do you know?

Surely the occupations are not yet, some are even real shaky candidates: Laszlo Trocsanyi (Hungary), because he has supported the controversial and now stopped judicial reform in his country. Janusz Wojciechowski (Poland) because the European anti-fraud authority Olaf is investigating him for allegedly wrong travel expenses. Rovana Plumb (Romania), who is accused of abuse of office. And Sylvie Goulard (France), who also has to justify herself to Olaf for alleged false occupations.

Light and shadow, then: What plans of the Leyen with this new commission and where the stumbling blocks lie explain our Brussels correspondents Markus Becker and Peter Müller.

The number of the day: 9

So many goals scored Serge Gnabry in his ten games so far in the German national team. For Joachim Loew he is one of the most important players, who has now been ennobled by the national coach with a regular place guarantee. These are the German players in the individual review after the Northern Ireland game.
