SANA correspondent met with a number of tobacco farmers in the western countryside of Homs, where Mohamed Ibrahim from Ras al-Nabaa village said that about fifteen years ago, he has been working in cultivating tobacco from the Berelli type, which is cultivated in rural areas of western Homs exclusively and depends mainly on securing financial income. In turn, Akram Al-Nasser, a farmer from the village of Al-Maqouleh in the western countryside of Homs, demanded that the Tobacco Foundation grant additional delivery licenses to increase the cultivated area of ​​tobacco, which is in great demand due to its guaranteed financial return and providing job opportunities for the people of the region.

The farmer Waheeb al-Zoghbi from the village of Ainata pointed to the importance of tobacco cultivation in raising the standard of living of farmers.He works with his brothers and sons, calling on the Tobacco Foundation to increase the licenses of agriculture granted to farmers in the region and not to delay the payment of financial dues in addition to increasing the support of tobacco cultivation and the provision of fuel, fertilizer and burlap bags in time.

Engineer Mowaffaq Zakaria, head of the marketing office in the Homs Farmers' Union, explained that the cultivated areas of tobacco in Homs governorate amounted to more than 4000 dunums of which 3600 dunums in the countryside of Tal Kalakh. For farmers, public sector institutions are the sole guarantor of the farmer, demanding an increase in the tobacco cultivation plan as a national product of economic importance locally and abroad.

For his part, the head of the agricultural section of the Coastal Branch of the Tobacco Foundation Engineer Ayman Qarah Falah pointed out that the licensed area in Homs Governorate is estimated at 5000 dunums of wild tobacco and the number of farmers 1100 farmers, while the amount of production last year to one million and 100 thousand kg total value One billion and 500 million SP.

He added that the General Organization for Tobacco provides seed for free to farmers, as the staff of the agricultural institution to follow up the entire agricultural process from agriculture to drying and delivery operations. The Foundation also provides all the requirements of the production process in advance of the crop without interest.
