German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed that Europe has decided to abide by the nuclear agreement with Iran and will try to find solutions to avoid escalation in this file.
"Step by step, we will continue to try to find solutions with Iran to avoid escalating tensions in a sensitive part of the world," Merkel was quoted as saying at the German parliament's general debate today.
"There are still opportunities for an orderly British exit from the European Union," Merkel said. "Germany will do everything in its power to do so ... but one must be prepared not to have a possible Brexit deal.
With regard to US criticism of Germany on defense spending, Merkel said that "Germany will fulfill its pledge to increase defense spending to 2 percent of its GDP as the European Union wanted to strengthen its common defense policy."
