[Brussels 10th Reuters]-The next European Commissioner Von De Arraien nominated Margrete Vestaire as the Competition Policy Commissioner on the 10th. If approved, Vester will serve for the first time in the second term in history.
In the first term, Mr. Vester gave him a huge penalty for Google under the alphabet <GOOGL.O>, and ordered additional tax on Apple <AAPL.O>. With this reappointment, authority will be further strengthened, and more severe responses to major US technology companies are expected.
Mr. Vester has announced on Reuters TV that he will not settle for past achievements. “It's a very important task. The problem over the next five years of competition will be quite different from the past five years,” he commented.
Mr. Vestaire will tackle the second term of the data usage problem of Facebook <FB.O>, the virtual currency (cryptographic asset) “Libra” concept, Apple's application fee problem, and so on.
Candidates for the next European Commission, including Mr. Vester, will attend the European Parliament hearings in the future. The new European Commission will be launched in November after all members have been approved.
