[Seoul 11th Reuters]-South Korea ’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Industry, Korea ’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, announced that the Korean government will appeal to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the same day over Japanese export restrictions. He pointed out that Japan's export restrictions are “based on political motives”.
In July, the Japanese government strengthened export controls for three semiconductor materials to South Korea.
Mr. Zhao stated that as the first step in resolving the WTO dispute, South Korea will formally request consultation with Japan and seek to withdraw export restrictions. If the issue is not resolved through consultation, South Korea will ask the WTO panel to make a decision.
