Therefore, the Greens in Lower Saxony now demand a ban on balloons. "Birds and other animals eat the soft balloon remains and then starve to death with a full stomach," said Greens country chief Anne Kura the "New Osnabrück newspaper. Balloons made of natural latex are therefore no real alternative. The city of Gütersloh in neighboring North Rhine-Westphalia had decided on Monday to refrain at all city events on flying gas balloons. The Lower Saxony Ministry of the Environment, however, is not enthusiastic about the demand of the Greens. "Balloons rising into the sky have always connected people with dreams and hopes," said a spokesman.
