Edward James Olmos was the first American of Mexican descent nominated for an Oscar for best actor in 1988 for the movie "Stand and deliver." His contribution for five decades to the entertainment industry has given a boost to the arts, acting, music and activism of many Latinos in the United States. He is also co-founder of the Los Angeles International Latino Film Festival, LALIFF.
