(CNN) - It is known for its amazing turquoise waters, its spectacular mountain backdrop and its stone mounds as offerings to the Inca earth goddess, Pachamama.
And now Humantay Lagoon, a lake in the Peruvian Andes, is becoming known for something even more dramatic: an Instagram post that shows two 'influencers' on a cliff hundreds of meters above the lake, one hanging from the other over the abyss

"There is a difference between risking your life and risking having one," Kelly Castille and Kody Workman, both Americans, captioned the image.
“Behind the masses of those who wish to see you lead a quiet and sedentary life there is an open canvas without stripes. Never let yourself be overcome by living your life for those who are too afraid to live theirs. ”

If it sounds like you on the defensive, that could be because the couple, who has the user of Instagram Positravelty, was criticized in April for a similar photo, taken in Bali, in which Workman was standing in a seemingly walls pool high, holding Castille's side above what appeared to be a great abyss.
After criticism, the couple said at the time that they had been playing with the optics, and that there was another pool 8 meters below Castille.
They also claimed that the photo represented the strength of their trust in each other.
The new photo, which was published on August 28, has accumulated more than 14,000 likes, but many critical comments.

Castille and Workman told CNN that the photo, like that of Bali, was a perspective trick, and they said they were not afraid "in the least."
"We trust each other and we would never do something that would put our lives at risk," they said.
“Perspective photos like these simply avoid certain surrounding elements. As for this specific photo, it is the frame that creates the dramatic perspective. ”
And they denied that they were encouraging followers to put themselves in danger.
"We will never live any moment in our lives worried that someone, somewhere, 'may' someday copy us," they said. "We believe that everyone is able to make their own decisions and determine what they should and should not do," and they added, "this is our creative expression."

The couple, who prefer not to be called influencers, said that the trip to Humantay was one of the highlights of their trip to Peru, and that they spent three hours walking and two hours relaxing on the lake.
"We weren't aware [that I could be controversial]," they said. "After the publication of Bali, we thought our love for perspective photos would be understood."
"This is our platform for self-expression and it will always remain that way."
