The theme of the day: The fears of the "middle generation"

The Germans are, on average, good. Over the years, the economy has been booming and unemployment is low. Many notice this on their own purse. And yet, some are plagued by this feeling: the fear of descent.

A recent Allensbach study shows that a large part of the so-called "middle generation" cares about their future - people between the ages of 30 and 59, gainfully employed, the "service providers of society", as they are called in the study. 35 million Germans are among them.

Where does the gloomy view of the future come from?

The good earners in particular believe that the economy could soon go downhill. That Germany could be left behind by a shortage of skilled workers, climate change, the policies of US President Trump or a halt in technological developments.

Four out of five respondents realize that people get rougher, that people around them are more aggressive, selfish, xenophobic. Especially on the internet and on the road.
