Friday is a demonstration day, which also applies to Greta Thunberg on her trip to the USA. In front of the White House, she participated in a rally of children and youth. A meeting with Donald Trump is not planned.

Together with several hundred children and teenagers, Greta Thunberg demonstrated in front of the White House in Washington for climate protection. "Never give up - we'll go on!" the young Swede shouted to her young comrades at the end of the meeting. Overall, she stayed in the march but rather in the background.

Thunberg spends six days in the US capital, but a meeting with President Donald Trump is not planned. The demonstrators accused Trump of being a liar. "Denial is not the solution," read a poster. "The planet is burning, Trump is a liar," they chanted. Trump is seriously doubting that climate change is caused by humans. He turned his back on the Paris Agreement of 2015 on global climate protection and relies on fossil fuels.

Thunberg has launched the world-wide student demonstrations for climate protection every Friday. She arrived in New York at the end of August and since then has taken part in a series of actions and meetings in the US. For reasons of climate protection, she traveled across the Atlantic in a sailboat.

Next Friday, September 20th, the third global climate strike will take place. According to Fridays for Future, demonstrations are planned in more than 350 cities. More than a thousand companies and alliances have already expressed their support in advance. In Germany, too, many people will take to the streets.

In Washington, Thunberg will be awarded a prize by the human rights organization Amnesty International next week. She will also appear in a congressional hearing at the invitation of the opposition Democrats. At the beginning of next week, Thunberg will take part in a climate summit of the United Nations in New York.

Thunberg is not as well known in the US as in Europe. But she is currently in the process of raising her profile. So she appeared in the popular talk and comedy show "The Daily Show" by the presenter Trevor Noah. Among other things, she talked about the difference between Europe and the US in the perception of climate change. In the United States, this is discussed as something "believed or not". Where it comes from, however, global warming is considered a "fact".
