(CNN Spanish) - In Nicaragua, the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (CENIDH) highlighted this Friday in its July and August 2019 report, what it calls selective crimes, impunity for human rights violations, and what it calls an increase of repression and persecution of human rights defenders. These conclusions were presented by Vilma Nuñez, president of the organization, closed by the National Assembly last December for allegedly supporting an attempted coup d'etat.

The Nicaraguan government has not officially reacted to this CENIDH report. However, presidential foreign policy affairs adviser Vladrack Jaentsnche on Tuesday rejected any violation of human rights in the country, during the 42nd session of the UN Human Rights Council. Jaentnsche denied any persecution of human rights defenders in Nicaragua.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet reported Tuesday in Geneva that her office received corroborated information about homicides and attempted homicides in the department of Jinotega and in the border area between Honduras and Nicaragua, between June and July of 2019.

In three of the cases, two that occurred in Trojes, Honduras, the victims participated in the anti-government protests that began in April 2018. Bachelet urged the authorities to investigate the crimes and punish those responsible.
