Tropical depression forms near the Bahamas and could become a storm on Saturday

(CNN) - The US National Hurricane Center has updated the disturbance near the Bahamas to Tropical Depression Nine . At 5 p.m. ET, the depression is 240 miles (385 km) southeast of Freeport, on the Grand Bahama Island.

Maximum sustained winds are 30 mph (45 kph) and depression moves northwest at 8 mph (13 kph).

A tropical storm warning is still in effect for the northwest of the Bahamas, including the Grand Bahama and Abaco Islands. A tropical storm watch remains in force on parts of the east coast of Florida.

The most recent forecast route updates depression to tropical storm for tomorrow, Saturday morning. During the weekend, the storm will be parallel to the Atlantic coast of Florida before moving to the sea early next week.

Then it could become a category one hurricane.
