The Venezuelan government has warned of the danger of foreign military intervention in the country under the so-called "Rio Treaty" signed by the United States and other countries in Latin America.
"This is dangerous because the tendencies of states, especially those bordering Venezuela, indicate that they will use the treaty mechanism for a military attack on Venezuela," Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Ariasa told a news conference in Geneva.
US President Donald Trump, who is threatening Venezuela with military action, ordered the treaty to reaffirm his country's readiness to repel any attack and protect its territory, Ariassa said.
It is reported that this treaty was adopted in Washington on the 11th of this month for the mechanism of the Inter-American Treaty of Mutual Assistance (TAR), also known as the "Rio Treaty" regarding the situation in Venezuela.
The Venezuelan president ordered his army last week to be on alert in states bordering Colombia to counter Colombian government threats of military aggression against Venezuela and Maduro ordered a military exercise under the slogan of peace and sovereignty in the states of Zulia, Tachira, Apure and Amazonas, which borders Venezuela and Colombia.
