In August 2018, the Trump administration proposed to withdraw the fuel efficiency standards by 2025 established by the previous Obama administration and the withdrawal of authority granted to California. According to sources, the government will divide the proposal into two parts and finalize the regulations that prevent the state government from setting its own standards, and then set annual fuel efficiency standards.
Several states, including California, have indicated their intention to enforce strict fuel economy regulations established by the Obama administration.
