French police have arrested 26 people during a crackdown on a demonstration of the Zero Jackets movement in the French city of Nantes, denouncing President Emmanuel Macron's social and economic policies.
French media quoted French police as saying today that "26 people were arrested demonstrators," noting that they used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
Yesterday, a massive strike by transport workers paralyzed public transport in the French capital Paris and its region in protest against a revision of pension regulations that the French president's government intends to implement.
Macron's domestic and foreign policies have been increasingly rejected by both the political and the public in France, where protests from the Zero Jackets movement have continued since November last year to demand his resignation on the back of his failed economic policies, which have led to a dramatic rise in the cost of living and increased unemployment among the French.
