The fortress in Homs has witnessed since the beginning of this year a set of restoration and rehabilitation work accomplished by the Syrian-Hungarian Joint Mission to return and complete its work in October.
The director of the castle, Naima Muhtarim, stressed the importance of this joint work in the fort which led to the implementation of many works related to the castle, its squares and some of its halls, where the mission completed the isolation of the roof of the church and the protection of some areas of the castle and conduct some excavations there to discover the canals and water expenses Archaeological stones and their correct locations without prejudice to them.
She expressed her happiness for the return of life tourism to the castle through visitors from various countries in addition to local visitors, which indicates the return of natural life to our areas of tourism and its castles, where the number of visitors during last August reached 4641 visitors since the beginning of the year to date about 15 thousand visitors The importance of volunteer work carried out by some of the youth teams in the castle from time to time to clean up their tracks and squares.
According to Hanna, the mission also studied the Asbar inside the church tower and the hall to accompany it from the north to accelerate the drying process of the northern wall of the church, which contains murals dating from the twelfth century, south of the Knights 'Hall, the Soldiers' Bedroom, and near the oil depot. It is a seal that was placed on the distinctive stones on the arches and in other distinctive places.
Hanna pointed out that the Ottoman house within the castle was rehabilitated to be a warehouse for the collection of archaeological finds, where the mission finished processing three rooms within this house through the installation of wooden windows and iron doors and the extension of water and electricity.
The Head of the Engineering Division explained that the plan of action to be followed with respect to the technical grant from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was discussed with a view to completing the guideline of the Citadel site in cooperation with the Syrian-Hungarian Archaeological Mission. The Hungarian side expressed its full readiness to participate actively in this project. And to provide the necessary expertise and technical and technical assistance, pointing to the start of the preparation of the castle scheme after the restoration of all spaces and constructions in preparation for the start of historical and architectural studies of the castle.
