Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has called the pictures showing opposition leader Juan Guaido with drug traffickers in Colombia a "big scandal."
"The images represent the criminal alliance between Guaido and the gang of drug traffickers Rastrojos, which caused a huge scandal at the highest level in Colombia and in all media and political circles," Maduro was quoted as saying on Thursday.
"Colombia knows this is a gang that kills and massacres people every day and Guaido is filmed with the four most dangerous criminals," Maduro said.
The Venezuelan Attorney General's office earlier announced an investigation into Guaido's ties to the Colombian drug cartel Rastrojos after Spanish newspaper El Pais published pictures showing him and four of its leaders.
The Rastrojos gang is linked to criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking in Colombia and the Mexican Sinalao cartel.
