Because passengers were stuck in planes for hours after landing, the US government has now fined the Japanese airline Japan Airlines $ 300,000.
In consultation with the US Department of Transportation, the airline is credited with paying $ 60,000 in compensation to affected passengers. $ 120,000 of the fine should be issued on the condition that incidents of this nature in the next 12 months at the airline fail.
As the agency said, the penalties relate to two incidents this year. The first one happened on the 4th of January. A Japan Airlines flight from Tokyo to New York had to land in Chicago due to bad weather. The flight crew should have helped the passengers leave the machine. However, it had only appeared after more than four hours. Until then, people in the interior of the plane were waiting.
In May, a flight from Tokyo to New York was diverted to an airport near Washington. This time, the passengers had been stuck on board for five hours. The reason was a shift change with the on-board personnel as well as the refueling of the machine.
The airline said that an overload of airports due to the bad weather had each led to the incidents.
