(CNN Spanish) - The Guatemalan Public Ministry issued an arrest warrant against former prosecutor Thelma Aldana. On Friday afternoon, the internal affairs prosecutor revealed the details of the “General Asunción zone 05” case that accuses Aldana of allegedly authorizing the purchase of a building at an overvalued price during his administration.
Marlon Pacheco, the internal affairs prosecutor, explained that although this purchase was made in 2017, only so far could it be made public since there is sufficient evidence to lift the information reserve.
At the moment the Public Ministry carries out seven searches linked to this case and issued seven arrest warrants against former Public Ministry officials, including Thelma Aldana.
According to the investigations revealed by the prosecutor Pacheco, the former prosecutor would have authorized the purchase of a building in the northern part of Guatemala City whose price was overvalued by almost $ 450,000. Also, according to the details offered by the authorities there would have been no prior requisition in the annual plan of the Public Ministry that justifies the purchase of the building.
CNN contacted Thelma Aldana but has so far received no response. However, the former Public Prosecutor, who is currently in the United States awaiting the approval of her asylum application, has denied on previous occasions having purchased the property irregularly.
