Iván Duque welcomes Lenín Moreno's proposal to apply to Colombia, Peru and Ecuador to host the 2030 Soccer World Cup

(CNN Spanish) - Colombian President Iván Duque said this Saturday at an event in Barranquilla that welcomes the proposal of Lenín Moreno, president of Ecuador: apply to Colombia, Ecuador and Peru to host the 2030 World Cup.

“I have given the instruction to Dr. Ernesto Lucena so that with the Minister of Sport of Ecuador, with his counterparts in Peru, we formalize that request for Colombia with the Andean countries to make
that proposal and be host of the World Cup of the year 2030 ”, said the president.

On September 7, Lenín Moreno said he proposed to his counterparts in Peru and Colombia to organize the 2030 World Cup in the framework of a meeting on the environment that was held in Leticia, Colombia, with
other leaders and foreign ministers of the region.

Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile announced in June that they aim to host the World Cup itself.
