Ouagadougou-Sana
ECOWAS chief Jean-Claude Casey-Pro has announced that the leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have pledged $ 1 billion to combat the growing threat posed by terrorist organizations in the region.
After a closed-door session of the 15-member Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) meeting with the presidents of Mauritania and Chad at an extraordinary summit in Burkina Faso's capital Ouagadougou, Casey Pro said the commission had decided to contribute urgently to joint efforts to combat terrorism by pledging to provide Billion dollar.
Casey Pro called on the United Nations to strengthen the mission of the United Nations Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), which has been stationed in the country since 2013.
Groups linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS have strengthened their presence in the West African Sahel, where the security situation in Burkina Faso has deteriorated recently as a result of terrorist attacks in late August that killed 24 soldiers.
