Welcome to The Morning @SPIEGELONLINE .
Today, Sven Scharf accompanies you to the day until 9 o'clock - here you will find the author on Twitter.
The most important political topics of the day can be found compactly in our briefing DIE LAGE.
The shortage of global oil supply following the attacks on Saudi refineries has pushed the price of oil to its highest level in six months. A barrel (159 liters) of the North Sea variety Brent increased at the beginning of the week by ten percent to 66.51 dollars, a barrel of US Leitöl by nine percent to 59.96 dollars. The production in two Saudi oil production facilities had to be throttled after the drone attacks. The failure affects around five percent of the world's oil supply. Rising oil prices boosted Asian energy companies such as PetroChina and China Petroleum by up to four percent. Iranian-backed Yemeni rebels claimed responsibility for the attack on two plants belonging to the Saudi Arabian Saudi Arabian group. Concerns of an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East made the facilities more expensive in so-called safe havens. The price of gold rose by one percent in early trading in Asia. 9/16/19 4:00 AM Welcome to the "morning". My name is Sven Scharf and I'm allowed to spend the next three hours with you.
