“Long live the anonymous heroes!”: This was López Obrador’s first Scream of Independence

(CNN Spanish) - The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, led this Sunday the first ceremony of the Scream for the Independence of Mexico since he took office last December 1.

As he had previously stated, the president, also known as AMLO, extended the traditional Grito to 20 live that ranged from the heroes of the Independence of Mexico to the "anonymous heroes" and the "universal fraternity."

From the balcony of the National Palace, in the center of Mexico City, before a crowd of people, the president exclaimed: “Mexican and Mexican, long live Independence, long live Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, long live José María Morelos y Pavón, long live Jose Ortiz de Domínguez, long live Ignacio Allende, long live Leona Vicario, long live the mothers and fathers of our country, long live the anonymous heroes, long live the heroic people of Mexico, long live the indigenous communities, long live freedom, long live justice, long live democracy Long live our sovereignty, long live universal fraternity, long live peace, long live the cultural greatness of Mexico, long live Mexico, long live Mexico, long live Mexico. ”

Then, López Obrador rang the bell that hangs from the balcony of the palace and waved the Mexican flag. Subsequently, a fireworks show was held.

Mexico celebrated this Sunday the 20th anniversary of its Independence with celebrations throughout the country.
