Berlin-Sana
The German government confirmed today that it will extend the suspension of arms exports to the Saudi regime.
According to Reuters, a source in the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel attributed this to the war in Yemen and the cessation of arms exports to the countries involved in this war and the Social Democrats stuck to their position refusing to lift the suspension.
For its part, Greenpeace "Greenpeace" appealed to the German government demanding not to end the decision to ban arms exports to Saudi Arabia, which expires at the end of this month.
"It is fundamentally flawed to discuss whether or not to extend the arms embargo to Saudi Arabia," Alexander Lortz, an OSCE disarmament expert, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. International humanitarian law continues to violate German weapons.
Last October, Germany imposed a total ban on its arms exports to the Saudi regime against the backdrop of its continued aggression against Yemen and the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at his country's consulate in Istanbul. Disrupt a number of European arms sales to the Saudi regime, including Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets.
