TerraCycle is a global waste management company that works with consumer products companies, retailers, cities and facilities to recycle products and packaging "difficult to recycle."

People participating in the program will receive a $ 30 gift card for Walmart for changing their old car seats. The program began this Monday and runs until September 30 in celebration of National Baby Safety Month.

"Through the Walmart Car Seat Recycling Program, traditionally non-recyclable car seats are now recyclable nationwide," said Szaky. "We are proud to work with this company with a vision of the future to offer families from coast to coast a way to give their safety seat, the element that has kept their little insurance, a second life."

Using a disassembly model of materials for the recycling of car seats, TerraCycle will work with subcontractors across the country to remove car seats and separate them by their components. Once disassembled, the company will use each component to be processed into a usable raw material in order to manufacture new products.

All work will be done in the USA. UU., And none of the car seat materials will reach a landfill or be incinerated, said Brett Stevens, global vice president of sales and purchases of materials at TerraCycle.

“Safety, especially the safety of car seats, is a priority for the Walmart baby department, so we wanted to use our size and scale to create an event that offered unprecedented access to exchange a car seat for a gift card, something ideal to use in your baby's next car seat, ”said Walmart Baby Vice President Melody Richards. "Sustainability is equally important to Walmart, so we are pleased to work with TerraCycle, which will recycle all the components of the car seats."

While this is not the first time TerraCycle has worked with Walmart, it is the first time that the two companies have joined together to offer Walmart's first national car seat return program.

"TerraCycle's mission is to eliminate the idea of waste by collecting and recycling traditionally non-recyclable materials," Stevens told CNN. "We are happy to be involved every time we can partner with a retailer or a consumer goods company to raise awareness about the fact that these everyday items can see another life."
