The Iranian Revolutionary Guards have confiscated a ship carrying 250,000 liters of "illegal oil" on board in the Persian Gulf.
All the smugglers on board had been arrested, the Revolutionary Guards said in a press release. The smugglers had loaded the oil from several tug boats in the Sang-Salameh region on the ship, but were stopped by the Coast Guard of the Revolutionary Guards, arrested and handed over to the police. Details about the ship and nationality of the crew members were initially unknown.
The Tehran leadership is already cruising with the London government after Iran set the British oil tanker Stena Impero in the Gulf in July. On Monday, however, was expected with a speedy release of the ship.
In the Persian Gulf, there are always ships and boats that illegally smuggle oil and gas oil into the neighboring Arab Gulf States. Although some of them are set by the Iranian Coast Guard or the Revolutionary Guards, but ships come through again and again. According to Iranian data, this is organized crime and it is therefore difficult to grasp the backers of these smuggling gangs.
