MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian troops, along with forces from seven other countries, began joint military exercises in the central military region aimed at fighting terrorism in Central Asia.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the exercise was defensive and not aimed at other countries, during which the Russian military and military personnel from seven countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, China and Pakistan - would neutralize the terrorist threat in the strategic direction of Central Asia.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced in August that the Center 2019 strategic exercises will be held in the period from 16 to 21 of this September with the participation of about 130 thousand military and more than 20,000 units of equipment and weapons and about 600 aircraft and will take place in eight training yards in Russia Issues related to combating international terrorism and ensuring military security will be dealt with in the strategic direction of Central Asia.
