(CNN) - The president of the United States Donald Trump said on Monday that "it seems that" Iran was behind the recent oil attack in Saudi Arabia, but that it would definitely not announce that the country is responsible.

"It looks that way…. We are doing some very solid studies, but right now it certainly looks that way and we will let you know as soon as we finally find out, ”Trump said.

When asked what options he is considering, Trump said he was not seeing any, emphasizing that the United States still needs to confirm who perpetrated the attack.

On a meeting at the United Nations General Assembly with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Trump said: “I don't have a scheduled meeting. I know they want to meet. I know they are not doing well as a country. ”

Trump said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and others will go to Saudi Arabia "at some point." He also said they would make a statement soon.

“But they also know something that most people don't know where it came from. Who did it… we already know it, ”said Trump.

Saudi officials say Iranian weapons were used in attack

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia issued a statement on Monday saying that initial investigations show that Iranian weapons were used in the attack and that investigations are underway to determine the source of the attack.

The statement is similar to the statements made Monday by the spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition, Lt. Col. Turki al-Malki.

The statement from the Ministry, which was published in the state news agency SPA of Saudi Arabia, also thanked the international community for condemning and denouncing the attack on Saturday and invited the UN and international experts to participate in the investigation.

"The Kingdom affirms that it has the capacity and determination to defend its land and its people, and to respond strongly to these aggressions," the statement added.
