[Geneva 16 Reuters]-The World Trade Organization (WTO) announced on the 16th that the Korean government has filed a lawsuit against Japan for strengthening export control of three semiconductor materials conducted by Japan.
In July, Japan strengthened export control to Korea for three items: polyimide fluoride, resist (photosensitive material), and etching gas (hydrogen fluoride), which are materials for semiconductors and displays.
The tension between Japan and South Korea, which has deteriorated since the Korean Supreme Court ordered Japanese companies to compensate the former recruiter last year, is becoming more tensioned.
According to the WTO rules, both countries need to consult within 30 days, and if they cannot be resolved, the Korean side can request a trial by the Dispute Subcommittee (Panel).
