The topic of the day: An attack and many unanswered questions

The attack hit Saudi Arabia on its most important source of revenue: oil. So far, the refineries of the kingdom were considered quite well secured - at least, it was until Saturday. Since then, after an attack, parts of the main oil processing plant in the east of the country are burning.

The Houthi rebels in Yemen declared only a few hours later to be responsible for the drone attack. But there are many questions: are they really behind it all? How big was the support of Tehran? And how do the rebels come up with an attack technology that can bridge hundreds of miles? Finally, the Yemeni border is located 1000 kilometers from the place of the attack. My colleagues Susanne Koelbl and Mohammed al-Kibsi with the overview.

As a reminder, Saudi Arabia is leading a US-backed military coalition in Yemen, fighting against the Houthis. These are in turn supported by Iran and have been controlling large parts of the northern Yemen since 2014. In recent months, the Houthis have already made several attacks with drones on oil pipelines and airports in Saudi Arabia (read more about the origins of the conflict here).

It is already clear that the attack has highlighted the vulnerability of the world's largest oil exporter and US major ally in the Persian Gulf. And again, the continual conflict between Washington and Tehran threatens to escalate. What the attack could have for economic consequences can be read in the analysis of my colleagues Alexander Jung and Stefan Schultz.

The quote of the day: "For the first time in its history all humanity has a common enemy"

Perhaps you already suspect the enemy that my colleague Christian Stöcker describes with this quote in his column. It's about the climate crisis, which has dealt with us like no other topic in the past weeks and months. This week, SPIEGEL is supporting an international initiative by more than 200 media companies with more articles every day, which will increasingly focus on climate change. The most important articles at the beginning:

My evening: the recommendations for your end of workday

What You Can Look At : The Animated Adult Series "Undone" on AmazonPrime. In it, the female protagonist Alma, a 30-year-old educator, has strange visions after an accident and can apparently travel at will through different time levels. Nevertheless, a nerdige scifi spectacle does not turn out, writes my colleague Oliver Kaever. His verdict is: a great television miracle that has not the slightest intention of adapting to conventional categories.
