If a woman receives a pension for about 15 years, she will have 25,000 euros less in this period than a man, according to a study. The reason for the pension gap: children. The live news.

Welcome to The Morning @SPIEGELONLINE .
Elisa von Hof accompanies you until 9 o'clock in the morning.
The most important political topics of the day can be found compactly in our briefing DIE LAGE.

On average, women receive 26 percent less pension than men. This emerges from a previously unpublished study by the University of Mannheim and the Dutch Tilburg University, about which first the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" reported. According to the study, a woman retiring at the age of 67 has about 140 euros less statutory pension per month than a man. Adding that over 15 years, it comes out: your account is missing 25,000 euros. It is interesting that the gap begins to gap only in the 30s. And what is the reason? Couples start families during this time - and often their mother reduces their working hours. Whether that is slowly changing and that women gain more pension points during this time of their working lives, one can not say exactly. The latest data from the study are from 2014. By the way, it was commissioned by the fund company Fidelity. (Photo: Uli Deck / DPA) 9/17/19 4:11 AM Good morning, dear readers! I warmly welcome you to the "Morning" on SPIEGEL ONLINE.
