Russian Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov announced that Moscow and Beijing have started work on a project to provide high-speed Internet via satellite.
"We are planning an interesting project, a low-orbiting satellite constellation for the distribution of high-speed Internet," Akimov was quoted as saying on the sidelines of a meeting between Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang. .
Russia and China recently agreed to cooperate in regulating Internet security. In June, the Kremlin said in a statement on its website that the two countries intend in particular to expand contacts on international information security issues and strengthen measures to safeguard the security and stability of vital information infrastructure on both sides.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in July last year the "Ambassador" project, which includes the establishment of a global network of 600 satellites to provide Russia and other countries with Internet and telephone communications.
