[Shanghai, 17th Reuters]-China's Minister Li Yi Jie and Ecological Environment is a commemorative event held on the 16th of International Day for the protection of the ozone layer. He expressed his view that "challenge" is brought about. China, on the other hand, explained that it was responding to violators with “zero tolerance” (tolerance).

In a study published this year in the scientific journal Nature, criticism is growing, with half of the global increase in trichlorofluoromethane (CFC-11), the ozone-depleting substance banned, being from China.

CFC-11 is one of the substances stipulated by the Montreal Protocol to suspend production worldwide in stages by 2010.

The Chinese government ratified the protocol in 1991. He stressed that he is doing his best to regulate use.

Lee explained that Chinese authorities are taking more “special enforcement measures” this year to combat illegal production as a countermeasure to the increase in global CFC-11. He stated that the producer of carbon tetrachloride, the main component of CFC-11, was under 24-hour supervision.

On the other hand, he pointed out that the next stage of the Montreal Protocol, which calls on countries to accelerate the elimination of alternative CFCs, will bring “new challenges” to China. The government stated that it would "resolutely keep its commitment" through policy improvements and enhanced supervision and management, and added that it would work with overseas partners to support increased regulations and the development of alternative materials and technologies.
