The parliamentary elections in Israel seem to make no clear winner: The conservative Likud Party of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the opposition Blue and White Party of former General Benny Gantz are equal according to initial polls.
- The Likud came to 31-33 seats,
- Blue-white on 32 to 34 mandates.
For a government majority at least 61 out of 120 mandates in parliament are necessary.
Several Israeli broadcasters said after closing the polling stations on Tuesday night on the basis of by-election polls that no clear winner could be identified.
The vote is the second this year. After the elections in April, Netanyahu had been unable to put together a coalition within the prescribed period of 42 days.
