The Korean government officially removed Japan from the list of preferential countries that can simplify the export procedure on the 18th. From mid-August to early September, the government asked the public about the changes in the system to exclude Japan, and 91% of the total agreed.
An official from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Industry in Korea explained the reason for the change, saying that “it is difficult to cooperate with a country that operates the system against the basic principles of the international export control system.” Seems to be a retaliation against the regulation.
Specifically, the system that had previously been classified into two categories, preferential and non-preferential, has been changed to three. Japan was the only designated new category. In the future, exports to Japan will in principle be excluded from the scope of a “comprehensive license” that allows export for a certain period of time with a single license, and individual licenses are required. The target company is said to be less than 100 companies. (Seoul = Kamiya Kaoru)
